			DEVICE SERVER CLASSES
			=====================

			 by a.gotz (25/3/97)

This README describes the distribution of released device server classes.

A large number of device server classes (>160) have been developed at the
the ESRF and at other labs. This release regroups the most useful classes
developed at the ESRF into a single binary+source release. The release contains
include files (public and private) and the class libraries for classes
developed on OS9, HPUX and Solaris plus source code for selected classes.

The release has been prepared from the file server at the ESRF and is a copy
of what is used there. This means that the the library contains only the
latest releases of the installed classes. For more information on the use of
these classes the user is referred to the appropiate user guide (DSUG) and
to the class programmer. If you get stuck don't hesitate to ask questions
but we cannot guarantee answers !

This release contains -

include - public class include files

include/private - private class include files

doc/ug - device server user guides

lib/$os - class libraries for supported platforms

lib/$os/obj - object files for device classes.

res - class resource files which must be loaded into the database

classes - source code for selected classes

In order to avoid distributing obsolete device classes only the most useful
device classes or those which have been requested have been released. If you
find a class missing or want to know if it exists send an email to
"taco-guacamole@esrf.fr". To find out what exists you can also take a look
at DSUG.index.

So far the following classes have been included in this release :

Vpap - stepper motor controller for the ESRF VPAP VME module
Maxe - multiple axe stepper motor controller
SerialLine - serial line class for OS9
